Pure White Cats Deaf
Researchers found that only 17 to 22 percent of white cats with non-blue eyes are born deaf.
Pure white cats deaf. Historically white cats were prone to being deaf I am not referring to pedigrees. 5 of the general cat population is white cats ie. Deafness doesnt shorten their lifespan but an outdoor cat is extremely vulnerable to the elements.
Google presents me with contradictory answers to this question. 20-40 have normal hearing. 40 percent of white cats with one blue eye were deaf.
I was told that all pure white cats with both eyes being blue are completely deaf and that all pure white cats with one blue eye are deaf on the side that has the blue eye. Contrary to popular belief white cats are no more likely than any other coat color to be deaf. The deafness is linked to the so-called W gene.
Deafness in white cats typically is a genetic condition resulting from the dominant white gene commonly referred to as the W gene. 15-40 of these pure white cats have one or two blue-eyes. Eye color in white cats also relates to the potential for deafness.
I am not sure but I think it was an inherited problem. When cats with the W gene are bred the resulting litters have the chance to inherit faulty hearing. 7 of white cats with yellow eyes were deaf.
Shaking their head or clawing at their ear. Signs of dizziness or disorientation. These animals are well-known to be commonly affected by a congenital hereditary deaf-ness that may affect one or both ears.
