Cat's eye nebula real image. The image on the left is an X-ray image of the Cats Eye planetary nebula obtained by the Chandra ACIS camera at the same spatial scale as the optical image. Hi Tom I recently saw an amazing photo of the Cats Eye Nebula and read that it is considered to be one of the least understood and amazing phenomena so far photographed in space Mind you the magazine I saw it in was over 5 years old so things may have changed. If he cant see anything of the Cats Eye nebula at only 250x in a 10 inch scope without having to use the I3 then that scope has a real problem.
Since having given up astro-imaging for health reasons and selling my gear I am finding real joy in processing some of Hubbles amazing image data such as this one the Cats Eye Nebula also known as NGC 6543. The Cats Eye Nebula NGC 6543 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Draco. This image was acquired by NASAs MESSENGER spacecraft as a high-resolution targeted color observation.
He called it a planetary nebula because it looked like a planet but actually it is a shell of ionized gas ejected from an old star. I am grateful that NASA has given the public free access to their Hubble Legacy Archive which is chucked full of amazing stuff. Existence makes the nature of a thing real. Maybe you would like to learn more about one of these.
